When it comes to highlighting, there's a fine line between enhancing your features and looking like your leaving the gym! Highlighting techniques don’t come naturally to most of us. But luckily, thanks to YouTube and influencers we can get an easy tutorial and then it’s just practice. Here are our tips for creating the healthy, natural, ‘glow-from-the-inside’ look.

It’s called highlighter for a reason

One of the main things you need to think about is where to apply your highlighter. The idea of a highlighter is to attract light and creating the illusion of brightness, hence the ‘glow-from-the-inside’. You want to apply your highlighter on the high points of the face. These are the cheekbones, over or under browbones, down the bridge of the nose, and even the inner corner of the eyes. Remember, never highlight somewhere you don’t want people to look at.

  • To make your cheekbones look higher, use highlighter on the top just off to the side of your under-eye area.
  • To make your eyes look bigger or brighter, apply it around your tear duct or dotted onto the centre of your eyelids for an instant brow lift, dab highlighter under the arch of your eyebrows.
  • To fake the appearance of a slimmer nose, swipe it down the centre of the bridge.
  • You can even make your lips look poutier by applying it in the bow of your lips.

Tools are just as important as the product

It’s best to apply your highlighter with a soft, fluffy brush to create a light sheer finish. We suggest our Get Cheeky Contour Brush from our brush collection set. Don’t have any brushes handy? Use your ring finger and middle finger to apply but remember to tap only! You don't want to make swiping motions with your highlighter because it can mess up the makeup foundation you have already applied. This is meant to enhance what you've already done, so gently tap your highlighter and blend into place.

Not only for your face

If you want to take your highlight game to the next level, then think about highlighting your body too.

  • Apply your highlighter on the apple of your shoulder, and then sweeping your brush down the outside of your arm. This will give your arms a subtle glow.
  • You know how you can apply your highlighter down the bridge of your nose to make it seem narrower? Same goes for your legs. Simply highlight down the centre of your legs to make them not only look slimmer but to give them a natural glow, too.
